Problems vs. Solutions: falling apart

Sometimes when it’s not working you have to take it apart.

Sometimes you take it apart to look at all the pieces individually and see which ones are causing the problem. Which ones don’t fit anymore. Which ones need to be changed.

Sometimes you take it apart just to look at what makes it up.

Sometimes you take it apart, your only thought: Deconstruct to reconstruct.

Sometimes you take it apart to get clear about what it is. Only by seeing the bits and pieces can you understand the whole.

Sometimes you take it apart with gusto, not really worrying about whether it can be reassembled.

Sometimes you take it apart with curiosity about how it all fits together, in wonder about how all those pieces work in unison.

Sometimes you take it apart and realize it hasn’t been working for a long time. It’s been jury-rigged, limping along.

Sometimes you take it apart and realize you don’t have the energy to put it back together again.

Sometimes you take it apart when you’re falling apart.

Sometimes you take it apart and stare at all those pieces, realizing you don’t have a clue how to put it back together, and so you don’t.

You start over. You start again. Anew.
