How to Think & Feel Better: moods

I came across a Neville Goddard quote the other day that’s been percolating in my mind ever since:

“Be careful of your moods and feelings, for there is an unbroken connection between your feelings and your visible world.” —Neville Goddard

Now, I don’t usually gravitate toward anything in the realm of “be careful of…” because that usually means focused on unwanted rather than wanted.

I don’t think we should take a scared straight approach to Law of Attraction. So I don’t usually gravitate toward warnings and cautions. But this one has been percolating in my mind. And I know it’s there for a reason.

It can sometimes be tempting to say or think, Oh, I’m just in a bad mood. Or, I’m just not in a good mood. And sort of leave it there.

Now I would be the first to say that being in a bad mood or not being in a good mood is not the end of the world. You’re a human being having a human experience—as am I, and so we are not always going to be happy and light and carefree.

At the same time, I think too often we discount or underestimate the importance of our moods and feelings. And too often we let a feeling that is a low vibration, such as disappointment or worry, we leave that feeling unattended to, which means what could have been a temporary feeling becomes a mood, a frame of mind, an emotional state that sticks around.

When that emotional state that sticks around is some flavor of negative emotion—which is really any emotion from #8 and lower on the emotional scale, then things are going to start to show up in your visible world that will not be pleasing to you

So why does it matter what mood you are in?

Well, because as Neville says, there is an unbroken connection between your mood and what shows up in your visible world, in your life experience.

In other words, your feelings and moods reflect your point of attraction, meaning they attract the circumstances and conditions that materialize.

To be a deliberate creator, a deliberate attractor, necessarily means being intentional about the vibration you are offering to which Law of Attraction responds.

That’s why Neville is saying be careful of your moods and feelings. Again, I don’t love the “be careful” as much as be aware, pay attention. And then, of course, be empowered to change your moods and feelings when they are some flavor of negative emotion.

Neville Goddard also says: “A change of feeling is a change of destiny.”

That makes sense, right?

When you change the feeling, when you begin to offer a new vibration, a higher vibration on a consistent basis, Law of Attraction responds. You then experience a change of destiny. You experience a change in the circumstances and conditions of your life, in the people and events and situations and things that show up.

Let’s talk more about this connection between your moods and feelings and your visible world.

“You’re getting exactly what you’re feeling about, not so much what you are thinking about.” —Bob Doyle

Here’s an example: You could be thinking about getting the promotion at work. Your thoughts could be, I can’t wait for them to announce the promotion and receive the pay increase and new job title.

That thought, however, is not really what is creating and attracting. It’s how you feel as you think that thought.

For instance, you might be feeling apprehensive about the announcement, hoping you will receive the promotion, but also worried that it will go to someone else. You could be feeling resentful that it’s taken so long for all your hard work to be rewarded.

In this case, your feelings of apprehension and worry and resentment reflect your point of attraction. So you want to notice how you feel, not just the words you say or the thoughts you think.

I’ve had many clients over the years share that they are saying positive-sounding words they have positive affirmations on sticky notes on their mirror, but…they are not feeling those positive sounding words and affirmations.

There is a disconnect between their thoughts and their feelings. They are trying very hard to think positive thoughts, but inside they don’t feel particularly positive.

And so, by Law of Attraction, feelings win out. As in, you will have more show up in your life experience that matches the essence of how you are feeling.

Are you paying attention to how you feel? Do you notice the mood you are in?

And what do you do when you are feeling a low vibe, negative emotion? What do you do when a mood sets in that reflects the lower half of the emotional scale?

While Neville said to be careful, I would say, Notice, be aware, pay attention to your moods and feelings.

Ask yourself this question: Given there is a connection between my feelings and what shows up in my physical reality, will I be pleased? Based on how I’m feeling right now, based on the mood I’ve been in today, will I be pleased about what shows up?

I often ask this very question. I ask it lightly and truly with curiosity. It’s not a question to ask to beat yourself up or to believe you’re doing it all wrong. It’s just giving you information you can use.

Your answer gives you direction, guidance.

If you’re feeling some flavor of positive emotion, so you’re feeling high vibe, then your answer to the question will be, Yes, I will be pleased with the circumstances and conditions that manifest.

If your mood the last few days has been one of excitement and positive expectation or if your mood has been loving and appreciative, again, you’ll be pleased with what you’re attracting from that vibration.

On the other hand, when become aware that you are feeling negative emotion and perhaps that’s been going on most of the day or even longer, and you’re mood is “meh”. You’re feeling uninspired, unenthusiastic, well then you have choice.

From this place of awareness and the knowledge that there is an unbroken connection between your feelings and your visible world, you can choose to raise your vibration by reaching for better-feeling thoughts or you can choose to do nothing and wait for some external circumstance that lifts your vibration, puts you in a better mood.

That’s what many of us often do. We’re feeling low vibe, we’re in a mood that is lower on the emotional scale, and we wait until something pleasing shows up, some external circumstance or condition that we like—that makes us feel better.

We use that external circumstance as the lever for feeling good. This is not taking advantage of how Law of Attraction works.

The problem with waiting until something pleasing shows up, is because you’re offering a low vibration, you’re not attracting pleasing things to show up. Also, waiting for something outside yourself to come along to make you feel better is disempowering.

You have the power to feel better. To think thoughts that give you relief, thoughts that feel good. To move up the emotional scale. You have that power. That amazing creative power.

I encourage you to pay attention to your moods and feelings. Really start to recognize the unbroken connection between your feelings and your visible world.
