Possibility and opportunity are all around if you’re on the lookout. Here’s a great story about the importance of being present to the opportunities right in front of you.
Back in the ’50s Kihachiro Onitsuka was trying to make basketball shoes in Japan, believing the sport was going to become popular in that country. His initial attempts weren’t successful.
One day Onitsuka was eating a salad of cucumber and cold octopus when inspiration dawned: The soles of his shoes should have octopus-like suction cups so basketball players could run without slipping and stop on a dime.
The rest is history. His shoes were worn by the Japanese Olympic basketball team in 1956 and his company would later become Asics.
You may not be eating cold octopus today, but are you seeing the possibilities around you?
