I want to talk about resistance.
Resistance to what you want to manifest. Resistance to what feels good. Resistance to the life you want.
Resistance is a vibrational holding pattern that does not match the vibration of your desire.
Really let that sink in. If you are experiencing resistance, you are in a vibrational holding pattern that doesn’t match the vibration of your desire. Law of Attraction 101: If the vibration you offer doesn’t match the vibration of your desire, then your desire cannot manifest.
This is why resistance is a problem.
Resistance, then, is the reason what you want has not yet manifested.
The opposite of resistance is allowing. That has a nice ring to it, does’t it?
Allowing, as in allowing what you want. As in allowing your desire into your experience. Allowing as in tapping into the abundance of the Universe, and allowing the Well-being that is natural to you.
You are either resisting or allowing what you want. You are either in resistance mode for what you want or you are in receiving mode for what you want.
There are many ways you can understand this dichotomy of allowance versus resistance.
- Alignment is allowing. Misalignment is resistance.
- Ease is allowing. Struggle is resistance.
- Feeling good is allowing. Feeling bad is resistance.
- Focusing on what is wanted is allowing. Focusing on what is unwanted is resistance.
- Downstream is allowing. Upstream is resistance.
You’re getting the idea, right?
Obviously you want to allow what you want. None of us wants to offer resistance to our own desire. But, in fact, many of us do just that.
What about you: Are you allowing or resisting?
Are you in alignment and experiencing ease? Are you feeling good and focusing on what you want? Are you headed downstream? If so, you are allowing.
Are you out of alignment and struggling? Are you feeling bad and focusing on what you don’t want? Are you headed upstream? Then that is resistance.
You might be offering resistance without even realizing it. Or perhaps you know you are offering resistance, but are not sure how to stop.
Sometimes when what you want is slow to manifest, you even add to the resistance by doubling down. You try harder; you effort more. You try to make what you want happen.
In other words, you think the answer to your slow manifestation is to try harder.
One of my clients was experiencing this kind of resistance to her desire. Here’s what that sounded like: I’ve been trying for so long to get an interview with a company where I really, really want to work. This is my absolute dream job. It seems like I get close, but then it doesn’t happen. I’m trying everything I can think of to meet the right people and get the interview, but it’s just not happening. I never imagined it would take this long, and it’s hard not be impatient.
- Trying hard and efforting are not the answer to releasing resistance.
- Impatience about the timing of your manifestation is not the answer to releasing resistance.
- Creating a story of struggle around what you want is not the answer to releasing resistance.
“The more you effort the more you are holding yourself in a vibration that doesn’t let what you want come. Because you’ve already identified ‘it’s big and it’s difficult and therefore I must try.’ And the very trying holds you in resistance to the ease that is natural.” —Abraham
Your ongoing resistance can actually cement the circumstance to you. Meaning cement the absence or lack of what you want to you. Obviously that’s not what you want.
The feel-bad emotions of resistance can take many forms—doubt, impatience, frustration, anger, worry, powerlessness, even despair—but regardless of the particular emotion, the point is that not feeling good is a sign of resistance.
“Negative emotion is your indicator of resistance, while positive emotion is your indicator of allowance. And they are on the same meter: Allowance; resistance. Allowance, resistance.” —Abraham
One sure-fire way to cut through resistance and access a different energy for manifesting is really quite simple. And it’s available to you—now and always.
And that is, be thankful. Be full of thanks. Look at the world and your life through the lens of thankfulness. Because when you are thankful, you are allowing.
You have an intuitive sense, I’m sure, of what it means to be thankful. You may call it gratitude or appreciation. It doesn’t really matter the name you give this lens for looking at the world, the point is you have experienced being thankful.
And when you tap into this energy—the energy of being thankful—you are also tapping into the energy of allowing.
“The Universe loves grateful people. The more grateful you are, the more you get to be grateful about. It’s that simple.” —Louise Hay
“The Universe provides abundantly when you’re in a state of gratefulness.” —Wayne Dyer
One way I practice thankfulness is to remind myself to appreciate where I am on my journey.
Overly focusing on some destination you’re trying to reach and being unhappy about where you are right now is a case study in resistance.
Abraham helps me remember the joy of the journey this way:
“We would begin saying, ‘I’m not ever going to get it done. I’m an eternally expanding Being, and I’m doing great where I am, and I’m so eager about what’s coming.’ That’s the essence of the vibration that keeps adventurous things coming, keeps you feeling always excited, stable and secure, keeps you feeling in love with life. All day, every day, count your blessings! All day, every day, make your lists of things you appreciate. And as you keep activating what is working in your life, then more pleasing things on all subjects will flow to you.” —Abraham
Are you counting your blessings and making lists of things you appreciate? Are you thankful about where you are on your journey?
Too many of us are impatient about the timing of what we want or we are doubtful about receiving what we want, and so we are anything but thankful. Instead, impatience and doubt are the vibrations we offer.
“Be grateful for what you have, and where you are in your journey. Gratitude is key to manifesting abundance.” —Abraham
“Upon waking, let your first thought be, thank you.” —Abraham
What a great way to start the day! Just imagine taping into the alignment and allowance available to you when you start your day from a state of thankfulness.
Abraham is not alone in this idea of orienting toward thankfulness as the way to start your day.
“Upon awakening, let the words ‘Thank you’ flow from your lips, for this will remind you to begin your day with gratitude and compassion.” —Wayne Dyer
“I awaken today, appreciating everything in sight, and I give thanks.” —Louise Hay
Of course, there’s no need to reserve thanks for only the beginning of the day. You can approach the entirety of your day through the lens and energy of being thankful.
As you do this, moment by moment, hour by hour, you allow. You allow all the manifestations you are wanting.
“I have noticed that the Universe loves gratitude. The more grateful you are, the more goodies you get. When I say ‘goodies’ I don’t mean only material things. I mean all the people, places, and experiences that make like so wonderfully worth living.” —Louise Hay
Being thankful is a choice.
A choice you can make regardless of what is going on in your life. Regardless of conditions and circumstances. Regardless of where you currently stand in relation to the goodies you want.
“Each day we have hundreds of opportunities to shift our thoughts and align with the Source that intended us for lives of joy and peace.” —Wayne Dyer
You can choose, in this moment to focus on all that you don’t like about your day or your life or you can choose to focus on what you do like and appreciate. You can choose to be thankful— for “big” things and “small” things.
Being thankful aligns you with Source and with joy and peace.
“I get what I want because I already chose it through contrast and now I do the real work: Appreciate! Appreciation holds me in a place of vibrationally allowing what I put into vibrational escrow.” —Abraham
All that you want—the goals you want to achieve, the shiny pennies you want to acquire, the experiences you want to have—all that you desire has been vibrationally created. Everything you desire is waiting for you in a sort of vibrational escrow.
Resistance is friction that cuts you off from what you want. Thankfulness puts you in the flow of what you want. Practice gratitude. Appreciate. Be thankful.
