- Are you ever confused about what you want or how to get what you want?
- Do you ever feel like you’re taking a step or two toward what you want only to then take a step back—and not seem to be getting where you want to go?
- Do you ever feel stuck?
- Have you experienced feeling really positive about your desire for a few hours or a few days followed by the complete opposite—where you simply lose the feeling of what you want being possible at all?
While these might sound like very different scenarios, at the root of all of them is the same thing.
At the root is how we squander our power.
“Because you counter the majority of your thoughts with opposing thoughts, you believe that you are not powerful. When you no longer split your flow of energy with contradictory thoughts, you will know your power.” —Abraham
I have experienced this. And I’ve witnessed this countless times with my clients. Both the before and after.
What I mean by “before” is when you are countering the majority of your thoughts with opposing thoughts. We’re going to talk more about that for sure.
What I mean by the “after” is when you no longer split your flow of energy. The “after” is when you know your power, your creative power. As in, your ability to attract and create what you want.
Before we get to the juicy “after”, let’s dive into what I’m calling “the before”, which is when you you counter the majority of your thoughts with opposing thoughts.
- We think about what we want and then we think about not getting it.
- We think about what we want and then we think about how difficult it will be to get it.
- We think about what we want and then we doubt it will happen.
Before my obsession with all things Law of Attraction, I was often thinking about what I wanted.
Or at least I thought that’s what I was doing. But in fact I was often thinking about the problems in the way to what I wanted or wondering why it was taking so long or questioning whether it would happen at all.
In other words, I was not purely focused on my desire, I was actually having a lot of thoughts that were counter to my desire.
I was countering the majority of my thoughts with opposing thoughts.
This can be as simple as this scenario: You want everything to go smoothly with the big presentation you’re giving at work next week. But then you spend the majority of your thoughts on what could go wrong, what you’re worried about, you focus on the nervousness you’re feeling and that attracts one insecure thought after another.
Those are opposing thoughts. Those are thoughts contradicting what you want.
One aspect of coaching that I really enjoy is helping a client become aware of these opposing thoughts.
Because often someone really does not realize how much of their thinking is in opposition to what they want.
It’s only by realizing this, by recognizing it, by becoming aware and then being able to align more of your thoughts with your desire—rather than counter with a bunch of opposing thoughts—it’s only then that you allow the manifestation.
This type of thought work is life changing when it comes to manifesting with ease. And that’s not an overstatement.
Think of this way. If you take a couple steps toward what you want and then you take a couple steps back to where you started…if you just keep doing that, you will not get anywhere.
You’ll exhaust yourself with all that, but you will not get where you want to go.
And that’s exactly what’s happening when you counter the majority of your thoughts with opposing or contradictory thoughts.
Doubt is an example of contradictory energy.
You want x, y, or z. When you doubt that you will get what you want, you have contradicted your desire. You flowed the energy to your desire and then you flowed your energy in the opposite direction with your doubt.
Doubt is such an undermining emotion when it comes to manifesting. It serves absolutely no purpose and very much gets in the way of allowing what you want to manifest.
If I have a desire and notice any flavor of doubt, I know that’s something that I need to clean up from my vibration pronto.
Let’s take a specific example about the contradictory energy of doubt.
One of my clients has a desire to find her partner. She is at a point in her life when she truly feels she is wanting and ready for a beautiful partnership. To create a committed and fun and loving life with someone.
While her desire is strong and clear. She knows what she wants and why she wants it.
But my client would readily admit that many of her thoughts are not about it actually manifesting. Rather, she has many thoughts on this subject that are more about: Will it happen? When? Why hasn’t it happened yet? Do I need to be on this dating app or go to that event to meet someone?
She is feeling impatience and confusion and doubt.
“People are not finding it difficult to find the mate of their dreams because that person is not out there, but because of their own contradiction to their own desire in the thoughts they offer about the subject every day.” —Abraham
When my client heard this quote, she said, That’s me. That is what I am doing.
Bottom line: Doubt is a contradictory energy. When you have doubt-filled thoughts, you are opposing your desire. And therefore, with that in your vibration, you are preventing the manifestation of your desire.
What about you? Consider something you have been wanting to manifest. What are the thoughts you’ve been offering about that subject? Are they aligned with what you want or are your everyday thoughts on that subject contradicting your desire?
Wanting something and noticing it’s not here—so focusing on the lack or absence of what you want, is another common way we split our energy and offer contradictory vibrations.
“You cannot desire something—and notice that it isn’t coming—without offering two contradictory vibrations that won’t let it come.” —Abraham
When you have a desire and it hasn’t yet manifested, you can avoid this potential contradiction in your vibration by thinking thoughts of positive expectation about what you want. By thinking thoughts that fill you with excited anticipation. By appreciating in advance what you are wanting. By thinking optimistic thoughts about your desire.
But if you focus on the energy of it’s not here yet, it’s still missing, this thing I want is still absence from my life—that is splitting your energy. I want it—that’s one energy. I notice it’s still not here—that’s another energy. And that split of energy does not serve you.
Again, what about you? When you consider something you’ve been wanting to manifest, have your thoughts been in alignment with your desire or have your thoughts been more about noticing the continued lack or absence of what you want?
So we’ve talked about the “before” of contradictory thoughts; let’s move to the “after.”
As in: “When you no longer split your flow of energy with contradictory thoughts, you will know your power.”
When you no longer split your flow of energy. That is the key to manifesting.
“When you talk about what you want, and why you want it, there’s less resistance within you than when you talk about what you want and how you’re going to get it. When you pose questions, you don’t have answers for, like how, where, when, who, it’s set up a contradictory vibration that slows everything down.” —Abraham
This has been such a helpful realization for me in terms of not creating a contradiction in my vibration.
The pre-LoA version of me was all about the how, where, when, who.
I would make myself dizzy with those questions, and I often did not have their answers. And so I definitely was creating a situation where I was offering a contradictory vibration.
I want THIS. But how? When will it happen? Who do I need to know? Where do I need to go? What do I need to do?
I don’t know. I don’t how. I don’t when.
OK, now I’m doubting. Now I’m feeling the low vibe of confusion. Now I’m tempted to take massive action to try to make it happen, but I don’t even know what actions to take.
This is a classic example of contradicting your own desire.
These days I rarely ask how, where, when, who. The answers to those become clear as the manifestation unfolds. But I don’t need to know those answers. Most times, I’m no longer even super curious about that part.
Instead, my focus is on what I want and why I want it.
When I stay there, I feel super aligned with my desire. My thoughts are all aligned with what I want. I’m not inviting in questions I don’t have answers to, I’m not inviting in doubt or confusion, I’m not getting in the way of the Universe.
I’m doing my part, which is to keep my vibration aligned with my desire, and trusting the unfolding of what I want.
I would offer you this same encouragement.
If you’re someone who has been countering the majority of your thoughts with opposing thoughts, this is an opportunity to no longer split your flow of energy.
Stay on the side of what you want and why you want it. Talk about that. Think about that.
Notice when you split your energy with contradictory thoughts and clean that up from your vibration. As Abraham says, then you will know your power.
