“Let your standard of success be your achievement of joy. For in the finding of joy, you are finding vibrational alignment with the resources of the universe.”
Wait a minute?! What?!
Success = joy? Achieving joy is achieving success?
- You mean, not more money or that promotion?
- Not a new car or bigger house?
- Not more retirement savings or a fancy vacation?
- You mean not having more stuff or getting the stuff you already have organized?
- Not even more purpose-driven goals like having a bigger impact, making a difference in the world?
Nope… let your standard of success be your achievement of joy.
I’ve had it backwards
This quote started me on a Law of Attraction journey that’s absolutely turned my world upside down in the best possible way. Because I realized I’ve had it backward all these years.
It’s easy to let other things—besides joy—be your standard of success.
- I know for me, in the past, it’s been things like starting a business or making a certain amount of money.
- I’ve measured my success by how many of my goals I achieved in a year, how many clients I had, or how much money in the bank.
- I’ve measured my success by the number on the scale, the size of my jeans, or whether I made it to the gym three times a week.
Get to the destination at all costs
My standard of success was often how things looked from the outside. Success was wrapped up in perfectionism, people pleasing, performing, and proving myself.
Most of all, this was my standard of success over these past decades: Get to the destination at all costs.
Achieve the goal. Focus on the payoff.
Forget about enjoying the journey. Just reach the destination.
The problem was, the journey often kind of sucked. And the destination—sure, arriving felt good for a little while, but then things just returned to status quo.
When you’re on a joyless journey, you can achieve your goals, get things you want. The promotion, the relationship, the money, the influence. Whatever it is you’re after.
But think about the very happy alternative: A joyful journey AND the things you want. Because that’s what Law of Attraction is promising you.
Joy and the resources of the Universe
Let me take you back to the quote that changed everything.
“Whether it’s a trophy, money, relationships, or things, the achievement of anything that you desire must be considered success. But if you will let your standard of success be your achievement of joy, everything else will then fall easily into place. For in the finding of joy, you are finding vibrational alignment with the resources of the Universe.” —Law of Attraction
Think about that: Joy AND the resources of the Universe!
Are you on a joyless journey?
What about you? Are you on a journey right now that’s fairly joyless and the reason you’re on it is because you think the ultimate destination will be worth it?
Here’s the thing: Most of life is journey. It’s not destination. Think about how true that is.
Destinations are brief moments in time. Milestones, markers. And, yes, destinations can be really cool and there’s nothing wrong with pursuing what you want. Whatever your particular destination may be.
But the journey to your destination is almost certainly longer than arriving. Life is the journey, after all. It’s the ride! The journey is all the days and weeks and months and years.
So here’s my question: How much joy are you experiencing? Are you enjoying your journey?
Or are you slogging and striving and struggling to reach a destination you think will bring you joy? And even if it does, this is certain: You’re not really enjoying the journey, today, the present moment.
It’s time to flip the paradigm
I challenge you to add more joy to your life. To flip the paradigm.
Repeat after me: I choose joy. My new standard of success is joy. My journey will be one of joy. I am no longer willing to accept a joyless journey for any destination—no matter what I think the payoff will be. I will do things I enjoy. I will do things in joy.
I want you to start measuring your success by your achievement of joy. Nothing more. Nothing less. Here are two questions to help:
- Was I joyful today?
- How can I add more joy to my life?
You can use these questions to check in with yourself and guide you to a more joyful life.
I want you to watch your life change as you choose joy as your standard of success. As you become a magnet for joy. Or as Gabby Bernstein says, a “super attractor.”
I leave you with this from Abraham:
“What’s your big hurry? It’s all for joy. You’re not ever going to get it done, so what are you racing toward? Every single activity you’re involved in is for one purpose only, and that is to give you a moment of joy. That’s why it all exists. Lighten up. Laugh more. Appreciate more. All is well.” —The Teachings of Abraham Well-Being Cards
Yes, indeed. Lighten up! Laugh more! Let your standard of success be your achievement of joy.
