Do the footwork and stay out of the results.
Do the footwork and stay out of the results.
That’s what you’d see on any given day if thought bubbles appeared over my head.
For instance, I’m thinking it right now because I want to write a blog post that resonates and is useful to you.
Thought bubble: Just do the footwork and stay out of the results.
It breaks down like this:
Do the footwork = actions you can take that (may) influence the outcome.
Stay out of the results = everything you don’t control, which is pretty much everything but YOU.
Of course, there is a time to focus on the results you want. It comes briefly at the beginning.
- What’s your goal?
- What are you trying to achieve?
- What do you want?
Once you know the result you’re after, it’s footwork time.
It’s backside in chair.
It’s showing up.
It’s making the call.
As in: Do the work.
Stop worrying or wondering if you’re going to hit a bull’s eye. Stop trying to control the outcome.
You can’t truly control results. Too many variables. But you can control you. In fact, you is all you can control.
You do have influence. And you can take action.
The good news is taking action often leads to the results you’re after. Yay and happy dance when that happens.
Will you do the footwork—all of it, with enthusiasm? And while you’re at it—stay out of the results?
