Whether you’re brand new to Law of Attraction or have been practicing deliberate creation for years, the basics are everything. So I want to talk about the foundation of any meaningful Law of Attraction practice.
And I can sum it up in three words. Feel good now.
- My advice for getting started with Law of Attraction: Feel good now.
- The foundation of any LoA practice: Feel good now.
Three little words.
And they are the holy grail of manifesting, of living joyously, of being in flow, of creating a life you love.
Feel good now.
“Feeling good is the ultimate manifestation.” —Abraham
Think about it. Like attracts like. Which means feeling good now attracts more to feel good about.
And feeling good now feels good!
It means you’re not waiting for someday in the future to feel good. When Friday rolls around or you get the promotion. When you lose 20 pounds or pay off your mortgage.
No, feeling good now is about today, right now, this moment.
But I imagine many of you aren’t necessarily buying in. You’re not buying into this idea of feeling good now. Because you want to tell me all the reasons you can’t. You say:
- I can’t feel good now—I hate my job.
- I can’t feel good now—my house is cluttered.
- I can’t feel good now—I just received an unexpected bill.
- I can’t feel good now—my parents are aging.
- I can’t feel good now—I’m overweight.
- I can’t feel good now—my business is struggling.
- I can’t feel good now—I’m worried about my kids.
- I can’t feel good now—I have too much to do.
The list of reasons why someone can’t feel good now is endless.
But Law of Attraction 101: Don’t focus on what-is unless it’s exactly as you want it to be.
“Every thought we think is creating our future.” —Louise Hay
If you have things in your life you don’t want and don’t like, focusing on them and feeling bad is not the way to create something different, something that you do want.
Feeling bad, feeling negative emotion, means your thoughts are mis-creating. Feeling bad is not the way forward. Feeling good is.
Feeling good now is a decision—a choice. And believe it or not, it’s not dependent on circumstances.
“Thoughts are like drops of water: with our thoughts we can drown in a sea of negativity, or we can float on the ocean of life.” —Louise Hay
Feeling good now is about floating on the ocean of life.
So how can you feel good now?
You feel your thinking. So the key to feeling good now is to reach for better-feeling thoughts.
Now, I can say this in a thousand different ways and you can intellectually understand what I’m suggesting, but unless you actually try it, it’s useless. Abraham says words don’t teach, experience does.
Which means I can say the words: All you have to do to find relief and feel better is to reach for better-feeling thoughts. But those words don’t truly teach.
It is your experience that teaches.
I can promise you this: If you really and truly experiment with reaching for better-feeling thoughts and you experience the relief that an improved thought-feeling combo offers, you are going to be hooked, sold, shouting it from the rooftops.
Reach for a better-feeling thought to feel good now. You might need to try a dozen thoughts, two dozen even, to find relief. But I promise your feeling bad is caused by your thinking, not the circumstances in your life.
If you change your thoughts—if you direct your thinking—your feelings will change too. And then when you reach an improved feeling state, your point of attraction changes. And that means the circumstances in your life will change too.
“When you reach for the thought that feels better, the Universe is now responding differently to you because of that effort. And so, the things that follow you get better and better, too. So it gets easier to reach for the thought that feels better, because you are on ever-increasing, improving platforms that feel better.” —Abraham
To feel good now, change your thinking, change your mind.
But many of us want to point to something we don’t like, some problem or circumstance, and keep looking at it and talking about it and thinking about it—and that just perpetuates feeling bad about it.
We keep the vibration active of don’t want, don’t like. We stay at the level of the problem.
“I change my life when I change my thinking. I am light. I am Spirit. I am a wonderful, capable being. And it is time for me to acknowledge that I create my own reality with my thoughts. If I want to change my reality, then it is time for me to change my mind.” —Louise Hay
At a fundamental level you believe one or the other of these two things:
- Circumstance is causing your feelings.
- Your thinking about the circumstance is causing your feelings.
Believe me: Therein lies a difference bigger than the grand canyon.
Are you trying to control, manipulate, shape and direct?
If you think it’s circumstances that cause your feelings, you will spend your entire life trying to control, manipulate, shape, and direct circumstances to get them to be the way you want. The way you need them to be to feel good.
Let’s be clear: I’m saying circumstances and that includes people. So if you think circumstances cause your feelings, you will try to control, manipulate, shape, and direct people to get them to be the way you want. The way you need them to be so you can feel good.
News flash: It’s never going to happen. You are never going to get all the circumstances in your life to line up.
And you are never going to get all the people in your life—in the world—to line up and march to your drum. Trying to get them to do so will be the greatest source of friction and turmoil in your soul.
But you will try and try and try to do this if you believe circumstances and people cause your feelings.
Does it serve you to believe circumstances cause your feelings?
As with all beliefs (and remember: beliefs are just thoughts you keep thinking), I’m asking you to question whether that belief serves you.
If you have even an inkling the answer is “no”, then I have a much better belief for you to try out.
Here it is: Your thoughts cause your feelings. Not circumstances. Not your lousy boss or loving husband. Your thinking about your lousy boss causes your feelings. Your thinking about your loving husband causes your feelings.
If you want to feel good now, choose different thoughts. Thoughts that allow you to feel better.
This is one of the most life-changing beliefs you can embrace. Because it empowers you. It puts you in control of your vibration and your point of attraction.
It means you are no longer buffeted around based on what happened at the meeting at work or what your kids just did or your husband just said. You don’t have spend your life in one gigantic reaction to circumstances.
MY thoughts cause MY feelings. YOUR thoughts cause YOUR feelings.
No one else can think for you, and that’s such a great thing. Because it means you can choose your thoughts—and can choose thoughts that allow you to feel good now.
“It is only a thought and a thought can be changed.” —Louise Hay
I love that!
Here’s a bit of tough love: You are responsible for how you feel.
Not your husband or best friend. Not your kids or colleagues.
You are responsible for how you feel because you are the only one in your head thinking your thoughts.
I want you to hear this loud and clear: You are thinking your thoughts; they are not thinking you.
Sure, a random, unhelpful thought can pop into your head. Who knows where it came from. It doesn’t really matter. What matters is the thoughts you feed with your attention versus those you starve. Many of us are walking around feeding thoughts that make us feel lousy.
And what happens when we feed those thoughts? They get bigger! They grow, take on a life of their own.
And we just keep giving them more and more of our attention. Oh, this thought makes me feel insecure and hopeless. Let me just keep feeling that feeling by paying evermore attention to that thought.
How does that make any sense?
I don’t spend time trying to “control” my thoughts, but I do not indulge thoughts that make me feel lousy.
“Every morning I remind myself that I can make the choice to feel good. This is a new habit for me to cultivate.” —Louise Hay
Perhaps making the choice to feel good is a new habit for you to cultivate too.
My advice for getting started with Law of Attraction is to embrace feeling good. That also means embracing what will certainly be a new paradigm for many.
And that is: Circumstances are neutral. Your thinking causes your feelings.
- If you want to feel a certain way, let’s say empowered, what thoughts will help you feel that way?
- If you want to feel positive expectation, what thoughts will cause you feel that way?
- If you want to feel appreciation, what thoughts will help you feel that way?
Here’s an example: If I want to feel empowered and joyful about my podcast, thinking I don’t know what I’m doing or no one cares what I have to say will not cause me to feel empowered or joyful.
Instead, I can choose thoughts that allow me to feel good. Thoughts like:
- I love exploring Law of Attraction and sharing what I’m learning with others.
- My podcast is a beautiful way I contribute to joy in the world.
You can see how those thoughts lead to very different feelings than thinking I don’t know what I’m doing or no one cares what I have to say.
Either way, the choice is mine. I can choose thoughts that allow me to feel good. Or I can choose thoughts that don’t.
And you have that same choice.
“Thoughts are mental energy; they’re the currency that you have to attract what you desire. You must learn to stop spending that currency on thoughts you don’t want.” —Wayne Dyer
So my simple advice for not only getting started with Law of Attraction, but getting started each new day with your LoA practice: Feel good now.
“Just change the thought. And watch how fast the Universe scampers to deliver to you circumstances and events that are in vibrational harmony with your thought.” —Abraham
