How to Think Better: happiness

In a good book the best is between the lines. –Swedish Proverb

Here’s what I’m currently reading—

A client recommended Shawn Achor’s Before Happiness: The 5 Hidden Keys to Achieving Success, Spreading Happiness, and Sustaining Positive Change. (Thanks, Karen!)

Shawn is a leading thinker in the field of positive psychology and his TED talk is one of my favorites.

Before Happiness

Here’s his latest book in a nutshell: Before we can be happy or successful, we need to first develop the ability to see that positive change is possible.

In other words, mindset matters. You are either living in a reality in which happiness and success seem possible—even with obstacles along the way—or you are living in a “reality” where they aren’t.

That resonates with me.

Shawn’s work is not about being Pollyanna or denying objective facts. But how we choose to look at those objective facts is in our minds.

I’m excited about this book’s practical, research-based steps for helping see the world through a more positive lens.
