How to Feel Better: Focus Wheel

I’m want to share an ultra-practical way you can move up the emotional scale and improve your point of attraction on y any subject.

This classic technique comes from Abraham and is included in the book Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires. The process I’m going to focus on is #17 and it’s called the Focus Wheel process.

I’ve mentioned Ask and It Is Given before. I encourage you to get a copy if you’re interested in specific tools and techniques for using Law of Attraction to your advantage.

The book teaches 22 different processes for improving your point of attraction—depending on where you currently are on the emotional scale. For instance, there is a different process if you’re already feeling elevated emotions, like positive expectation or enthusiasm versus if you’re feeling an emotion further down the scale, like disappointment or anger.

There are different processes depending on your emotional state because each technique is designed to meet you where you are. If you were to try a process designed for elevated emotions when you’re not feeling those emotions on the high end of the emotional scale, it simply wouldn’t work. And it would probably leave you feeling even gunkier than you were before.

Let me begin with when you would want to use this particular process.

If you’re experiencing emotions from Boredom, which is an 8 on the emotional scale, all the way down to Anger at a 17, that’s when to give the Focus Wheel Process a try. So if you are feeling boredom, pessimism, frustration, irritation, impatience, overwhelment, disappointment, doubt, worry, blame, discouragement, or anger, then doing a Focus Wheel would be a fantastic idea.

Basically, any time you are feeling negative emotion and want to feel relief would be a great opportunity to do a Focus Wheel.

For example, let’s say you are feeling discouraged about your job because you don’t think your contribution is appreciated and you feel undervalued. You’re hanging out in disappointment and discouragement.

According to Law of Attraction, how you feel about a subject is your point of attraction. Which means Law of Attraction will respond with other experiences that will also make you feel discouraged and disappointed—or emotions of a similar frequency in the middle of the emotional scale.

If you don’t do anything to offer a different vibration, then nothing in your experience can change. Because Law of Attraction matches the people, events, things, and circumstances that show up in your life to your vibrational offering.

“Most people have not deliberately guided their thoughts to those things that feel good, and so, without knowing they are doing it, they develop patterns of thoughts that they now continue to repeat.” —Ask and It Is Given

Does that sound familiar?

  • Are you repeating patterns of thought?
  • What are you creating with your point of attraction?
  • Is it what you want?

The Focus Wheel process will help you clean up your vibration.

And when you offer a different, higher vibration, the Law of Attraction will respond.

Doing a Focus Wheel helps you practice your thoughts into a better feeling. That better feeling then becomes your better point of attraction. It’s a beautiful thing!

I want you to know this: You have an opportunity to shift your energy on whatever subject is causing the negative emotion. So the next time you experience negative emotion about something you don’t want or don’t like, I encourage you to use the Focus Wheel process.

So let’s talk about how to actually do a Focus Wheel.

This is a simple paper and pencil exercise, no fancy tools required.

Get a piece of paper and draw a large circle in the center of the page. This first circle will be as large as will fit on your page, and I would recommend using at least an 8 1/2 x 11” sheet of paper. This large circle is going to represent your overall wheel.

Then draw a small circle, an inch or two in size, in the middle of that large circle. I’ll talk about what goes in the smaller center circle in just a minute.

So now you’ve got a great big circle with a little circle in the middle.

You’re going to be writing 12 statements, so segment your big circle by drawing 12 lines, roughly equal distance apart that extend from the outer edge of your little circle out to your big circle.

When you’re done, you’ll have something that looks like a wheel with spokes. The lines you just drew segmenting the wheel into those 12 roughly equal parts are the spokes.

Now, we’re not looking for perfection here. Creating the template for your Focus Wheel should only take seconds. It’s what you write in the Focus Wheel that’s important, not how it looks.

If you’re unclear about what I’m describing or don’t want to draw your own, you can download this blank template

Now you’re ready to change your vibration on a particular subject.

“Close your eyes for a moment and turn your attention to whatever has happened that has produced the negative emotion within you. Identify exactly what it is that you do not want. At this point say to yourself, ‘Well, I clearly know what I don’t want. What is it that I do want?’” —Abraham

Because that is the statement you will write in your small circle. In other words, you will write your desire, what you do want, in the center circle.

But for whatever reason, it’s usually easiest to start with what you don’t want. That’s what caused you to feel negative emotion. For instance: I don’t want to be disappointed about my job. I don’t want to struggle with money. I don’t want to argue with my spouse.

It’s easy to know what you don’t want. The contrast of life is always clarifying unwanted versus wanted.

Once you’ve identified what you don’t want, it’s time to pivot and get clarity about what you do want. And it’s very helpful to think about what you want in terms of how you want to feel.

  • I want to enjoy my job.
  • I want abundance and ease around money.
  • I want a loving, harmonious relationship with my spouse.

To make your wants even more powerful, you can turn them into a statement starting with I am… or It is…

  • I am enthusiastic and engaged at work.
  • I am aligned with the energy of abundance.
  • I am surrounded by love.

You could also frame your want or desire as if the outcome has already been achieved or received. So instead of saying I don’t want to be worried about money or I want more money you could say Money and abundance flow easily into my life.

Do what works for you. If framing your want as simply I want x, y, or z, then do that. But I’ve noticed for many of my clients it feels more energetic to either frame their desire as if it has already come to pass or by using I am… or It is.…

And now it’s time to fill in your Focus Wheel.

To do this, you need to get on the wheel, so to speak.

You get on the wheel by finding a statement that brings relief and that you already believe.

  • You want a statement that matches up with what’s in the center of your wheel.
  • You want a statement that doesn’t create friction or resistance and doesn’t contradict what you wrote in the center circle.

Don’t worry, I’ll give you a real-life example in just a minute, but for now let’s keep going with an overall description of how the Focus Wheel works.

You’ll write a statement that feels good in the first space on your wheel, roughly corresponding to the 12 o’clock position if you were looking at a clock. Then the next statement you write will be at 1 o’clock position, and so on, as you work your way around your wheel.

Finding the first statement for your Focus Wheel is often the most challenging.

Abraham likens the Focus Wheel Process to trying to get on a merry-go-round that’s already moving. The negative emotion that prompted you to do the Focus Wheel in the first place already has momentum.

If you try to pick a statement that is too vibrationally aligned with what you wrote in your small center circle, but you’re not there yet vibrationally, it’s going to knock you off in the bushes, as Abraham says. Because you’re not up to speed with that thought yet.

So you need to find a softer, more general thought to start with.

The positive thoughts you write down on your Focus Wheel will gain momentum, because you’re focusing on them and Law of Attraction responds, but you’ve got to start small and soft and general enough to even get on the wheel.

Imagine trying to hop on a merry-go-round that’s already spinning with some speed. The momentum that’s already been created prevents you from getting on and keeps throwing you off. But if you can slow down the momentum, even just a bit, with a statement that feels even only slightly better, you can get on the wheel.

That’s why you want to start with beliefs you already hold.

So feel around and try on statements to see if they keep you on the merry-go-round. If there’s too much resistance, just let that statement go, move on, and try another one. Don’t write down a statement if you have a lot of resistance. You’re only writing down statements that bring relief.

You may have to start out with a very general statement so you don’t feel resistance. That’s OK.

Remember, when you focus on a thought for 17 seconds, it draws more thoughts like it and starts to create momentum. That’s why you can start with even a very general thought as long as you believe it and it brings relief—and then pretty quickly move to more specific thoughts that are at a much higher vibration.

Now here’s what’s really cool. When you write down the first statement—that first fresh new thought that feels better and offers relief—in just 17 seconds of holding that thought, you’ll start to get momentum in that direction.

“Within 17 seconds of focusing on something, a matching vibration becomes activated. And now, as that focus becomes stronger and the vibration becomes clearer, the Law of Attraction will bring to you more thoughts that match.” —Abraham

These easy-to-believe thoughts gain momentum when you focus on them for as little as 17 seconds.

And that is what you want. Because the matching vibration that’s been activated is going to help you gain momentum in the direction of improving your point of attraction on the subject at hand.

Law of Attraction will then respond by delivering more thoughts of a similar vibration—or even higher. This means as your positive vibration thoughts gain momentum, you’ll have access to thoughts you wouldn’t even have considered at the outset. That is the beauty of this process.

Once you get “on” your Focus Wheel with a few general statements you believe, then you gain momentum and can speed up. You can increase the speed of the vibration.

As you think a thought, see how it feels.

Only you know how a thought feels to you. Focus on the thought. Do you believe it? How does it feel? If it feels pretty good, write the thought down on your Focus Wheel.

And now try another one. Again, with each thought, you’re trying to stay on your wheel. If it’s a thought that brings relief, it’s a sign your vibration is lifting. As you add statements to your Focus Wheel, you’re shifting your point of attraction.

The idea of the Focus Wheel is to try on thoughts to find ones that take you gradually in the direction of what you wrote in your center circle. As you try on thoughts, you will write down the ones that meet these criteria:

  • You can believe the thought. It feels true to you.
  • The thought brings relief. You feel better when you think it—even if it’s only slightly better.
  • The thought aligns with your desire, which is what you wrote in your smaller, center circle.

You’re not looking for the one thought that “solves” everything.

Instead, you’re just looking for a thought that brings a bit of relief and allows you to stay on the merry-go-round. Because if each thought does that, you’ll gain momentum and by the time you’ve finished with your Focus Wheel by adding your 12 statements, you’ll find you feel closer vibrational alignment with the desire you originally wrote in the center.

This is the essence of identifying a desire and then achieving a vibrational match with it. This is a Law of Attraction skill, for sure, that gets you in receiving mode. That lines you up vibrationally with what you want.

And it all begins by simply trying to find a thought that allows you to stay on the wheel.

It’s a process of trial and error.

Don’t be upset by that. Trust in the process. You absolutely know how to do this because you can try on thoughts to see how they feel, and you can write the ones that bring relief onto your Focus Wheel.

It’s really that simple.

This is about lowering resistance so you can let energy flow to your desire. This is about aligning your energy with your desire.

When you deliberately reach for thoughts that feel good, focusing for a longer period of time on a specific subject in a way that feels good, your point of attraction will change.

“When you focus on the good, the good gets better.” —Abraham

Let me take you through the statements I recently used doing a Focus Wheel.

Here’s what prompted me to do use this process.

I was experiencing negative emotion about Hans wanting to share the negative news of the day with me. He’s a voracious reader and is much more tuned in to current events than I am. So he comes home from work and wants to share the news of the day, and let’s just say I don’t often find him talking about unicorns and rainbows.

My thoughts about these conversations definitely created negative emotions of irritation and impatience, and felt really low-vibe to me. So when I sat down to do my Focus Wheel, here’s what I wrote in the small, center circle: I am relaxed, loving, and wobble-free when Hans talks about the news of the day. That captured my desire.

But that is not where I started. I was not relaxed, loving, or wobble-free when he shared the latest, negative news of the day.

So I needed a thought to get on the wheel. And remember: A thought is just a sentence in your head.

This is a trial-and-error process. I had other thoughts that either I didn’t believe or that for other reasons created resistance. And those statements did not make it onto the wheel. But here are the thoughts that offered relief and made me feel better.

  1. These conversations about the news really don’t last long. (the thought that got me on the wheel)
  2. He doesn’t “shut down” what I want to talk about.
  3. I don’t feel loving when I censor him.
  4. When I bring up a topic, Hans always makes an effort to listen and engage.
  5. I can choose to view these conversations as less about negative news and more about a desire for connection.
  6. It feels good to hear between the words.
  7. These conversations are a chance to practice my LoA skills. No doubt!
  8. I add energy in the wrong direction to these conversation when I resist them.
  9. I value unconditional alignment.
  10. All is well—regardless of the topic.
  11. I don’t need Hans to be different for me to be loving.
  12. How I think and feel is not up to circumstances. It’s up to me.

And just like that, I had raised my vibration and improved my point of attraction. By the time I moved around my Focus Wheel, I was vibrationally aligned with what I want, which is to be relaxed, loving, and wobble-free when Hans talks about the news of the day.

Here’s what you’ll notice when you do the Focus Wheel process.

The way you feel when you’ve finished is decidedly different than when you started. Quite simply, you’ll feel better.

That’s what the Focus Wheel process is designed to do—help you feel better, which, in turn, improves your point of attraction. In addition to feeling better, you’ll also have shifted your vibration on the topic of your Focus Wheel. You will have gotten into vibrational alignment with your own desire, which is essential for manifestation.

I would love for you to give the Focus Wheel process a try! You have nothing to lose and will very likely put a tool in your Law of Attraction toolkit that will greatly improve your point of attraction.

“Make a decision about what you want, focus your attention there, and find the feeling place of it—and you are there instantly. There is no reason for you to suffer or struggle your way to or through anything.” —Abraham

I sometimes have clients tell me a Focus Wheel sounds like too much work or is too complicated.

Well, first of all, thinking of it in that way is going to be self-fulfilling. It will be hard and cumbersome. So I encourage you to clean up your thinking about this process before you even begin.

Here’s a bit of tough love: If you have a process that is easier and effective for improving your point of attraction, by all means, stick with it!

But too many of us are turning away from techniques that really do work without truly giving them a try. We’re making a decision about these tools and techniques before we even attempt them.

When you try the Focus Wheel process, feel relief, and move up the emotional scale, I can almost guarantee you’re going to be hooked. It’s so powerful when you realize the control you have—not circumstances—over your thoughts and feelings.

You will feel very powerful, indeed, when you can deliberately and consciously change your point of attraction.
