My clients have big dreams—start a business, live debt-free, move to another country, lose weight and get healthy, write a book, reinvent themselves at mid-life…
A question I frequently hear: How can I get from where I am to where I want to be?
The answer is simple
Well, the answer is not all that complex: Do one thing a day to make your dream happen. At least one thing. Every single day. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Sometimes we want a more complex answer because the perceived complexity gives us an excuse for not taking action.
But the power is in the simplicity of the answer. Because every one of us can find time and energy to do at least one thing each day to move toward living our best life.
One thing a day in action
For instance, I recently began working with a woman who’s interested in leaving behind her corporate job and striking out on her own. She had the start of a business plan and literally a list of hundreds of things to make this dream come true.
But she was overwhelmed by closing that gap between where she is and where she wants to be—and became paralyzed not knowing where to start.
We worked on the One A Day approach—and it proved to be the formula that freed her from inaction.
Some days, she accomplished dozens of tasks in support of her new life. Other days, it was literally a single accomplishment—perhaps something as small as spending 10 minutes researching web hosting services for her future website.
The point is she committed to doing at least one thing every single day. It made all the difference in keeping her in action and preventing the paralysis that can come from trying to bridge that gap in one step.
My challenge to you: Commit to doing one thing every single day—that’s 7 days a week, 365 days a year—to close the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
