How to Feel Better: vibrational set-point

You have a vibrational set-point. And you attract things of a similar vibrational frequency.

That’s why it’s so useful to think of yourself as a magnet in order to understand Law of Attraction. Because whatever you are giving, by way of your vibrational offering, you are receiving.

And, of course, the vibration you are offering reflects the emotion you are feeling.

Most of us move up and down the emotional scale throughout the day, experiencing different emotions.

But what are your go-to emotions? What emotions do you experience on a regular basis? Optimism? Pessimism? Enthusiasm? Worry? Appreciation? Insecurity?

Your go-to emotions are creating your vibrational set-point,

Or your emotional set-point—it’s the same thing.

Your emotional set-point is the average energetic frequency you are vibrating at.

So just like a thermostat, you have an emotional frequency at which you typically vibrate. Now you may go higher or lower on the emotional scale, but you average largely the same frequency, the same vibration. And that is your vibrational set-point.

Your vibrational set-point then is your point of attraction—attracting circumstances, people, events, situations, and things that match the same frequency. Which means your vibrational set-point is what’s creating your reality.

Now the good news is: You can change your vibrational set-point.

If you want to create a new reality, then you need to start emitting the energetic frequency of the reality you want to create.

“How do you create a new reality unless you find a way to feel other than the reality that you’re in? You have to set up a vibrational frequency that is a point of attraction if you want change.” —Abraham

So how do you change your vibrational set-point? Well, it all comes down to your thinking.

“What you think about activates a vibration within you.” —Abraham

Your vibrational set-point is about the thoughts you’re thinking on a regular basis that are creating the emotions you feel on a regular basis.

  • What are your chronic thought patterns?
  • What are persistent, long-standing thoughts?
  • What are your habits of thought?

In other words: What are your go-to thoughts?

Often it’s easier to pin down an answer when you focus on a particular area of your life or specific subject. When it comes to your job or career, what are your go-to thoughts? When it comes to your finances, what are your habits of thought? When it comes to your health, what are your chronic thought patterns?

“When you continue to focus upon any thought, it becomes increasingly easy to continue to focus upon it because the Law of Attraction is making more thoughts like it available to you. Emotionally speaking, you are developing a mood or an attitude. Vibrationally speaking, you are achieving a habitual vibrational groove, so to speak—or a set-point.” —Ask and It Given Cards

Your thoughts patterns are creating a habitual vibrational groove.

And this groove, this set-point, is what’s attracting the circumstances, people, events, situations, and things into your life.

If the thoughts you consistently and persistently think about your relationship create feelings of worry and discouragement, then the vibration of worry and discouragement is your persistent point of attraction.

This is why it’s so important to know that you have a vibrational set-point and to know what it is. Because it’s only with this awareness and knowledge that you can decide if your emotional set-point is serving you or needs to change.

“Through observing, remembering, pondering, and discussing, you have practiced thoughts that have become more powerful thoughts or beliefs, which now dominate your point of attraction and each thought you consider, or focus upon, causes you to feel an emotional response. And so, over time, you have come to feel certain ways about certain things. We call that your Emotional Set-Point.” —Abraham

You have come to feel certain ways about certain things.

  • Is the way you’re feeling about those things serving you?
  • Is your emotional set-point serving you?

Now I want to be clear: There’s nothing wrong with having an emotional set-point. The fact that this happens is not the issue.

The issue is when the vibrational set-point you’ve created is not the one you want. The problem is when your vibrational set-point is attracting circumstances, people, events, situations, and things into your life you do not want.

An emotional set-point is not inherently negative.

To prove this, just think about an area of your life that feels consistently in flow and easy. Think about a subject that feels good when you think about it. Because you have thought patterns about that subject too. And it is those thought patterns that have created an emotional set-point.

This is essentially how emotion works.

I want to go a little deeper, and to do that we’re going to talk about something called an emotional refractory period. Which is a fancy way of saying a memorized emotional pattern.

Something happens and you have an emotional reaction. And that reaction might last for moments or hours.

Then if your emotional reaction lingers for hours or even days, it turns into a mood.

I’ll bet this is sounding familiar. For instance, your husband said something critical and you had an immediate emotional reaction. And the feeling lingered. Then when someone asks, Why are you in such and such mood? You realize, oh because of something that happened yesterday or days ago.

So first there’s the reaction. And if you let the emotional reaction linger for hours or days it turns into a mood.

Now if you keep that mood going for weeks or months, you develop a temperament.

Imagine someone about which you would say, Oh he’s so bitter. OK, that’s temperament, which is really just an emotional reaction sustained for a period of time into a mood sustained for a period of time into a temperament.

And then if you keep that memorized emotional pattern going for years, it becomes a personality trait.

So that’s how emotion works.

  • Reaction: Moments or Hours
  • Mood: Hours or Days
  • Temperament: Weeks or Months
  • Personality Trait: Years

Are you fueling emotions at the high end of the emotional scale or at the low end?

  • Are you reacting with enthusiasm and appreciation or are you reacting with anger and worry?
  • Are you turning positive expectation into a mood or discouragement into a mood?
  • Are you creating a temperament of optimism or of pessimism?

When you think about your own personality traits, how can you connect the dots to the habitual patterns of thought that have formed those traits?

Why does all that matter and what does it have to do with Law of Attraction?

When you have an initial emotional reaction, it didn’t just happen to you. Law of Attraction 101: Circumstances are neutral.

So there was a circumstance, you had a thought about that circumstance, and that thought created your emotional reaction.

And when you sustain that emotional reaction for hours or even days? Well, it can only mean you’ve been stoking your original reaction with more thoughts that have fueled your emotional reaction until you have created a mood.

Remember: Thoughts that are vibrationally similar are drawn to one another.

Which is why you can so easily get momentum around your initial emotional reaction if you don’t manage your mind, if you’re not deliberate in your thinking.

“When you focus upon lack in an attitude of complaining, you establish a vibrational point of attraction that then gives you access only to more thoughts of complaint. Your deliberate effort to tell a new story will establish a new pattern of thought, providing you with a new point of attraction from your present, about your past, and into your future. The simple effort of looking for positive aspects will set a new vibrational tone that will begin the immediate attraction of thoughts, people, circumstances, and things that are pleasing to you.” —Abraham

Did you catch that—telling a new story creates a new pattern of thought. It really is that simple.

But if you keep thinking the same thoughts, you will keep creating the same emotions. And your chronic thought patterns will maintain your emotional set-point.

Do you have an overall emotional set-point or a different emotional set-point about each area of your life?

I won’t pretend to have the end-all, be-all answer, but here’s how it feels useful to me to think about it.

I do think you have an overall emotional set-point. It’s the culmination of all the individual emotional set-points about all the areas and subjects of your life.

But when it comes to effecting change in your real life, it often feels easier to start with changing your emotional set-point around a particular subject or in a particular area.

For instance, changing your emotional-set point about your relationships or your finances. That’s because it’s often easier to uncover habitual thoughts patterns related to a specific area of life rather than trying to tackle the entirety of your life at once.

“Noticing how things are turning out for you is one very clear way of understanding which vibrational requests you are emanating, because you always get the essence of what you are thinking about, whether you want it or not.” —Abraham

To change your emotional set-point, you have to offer substantially different vibrations.

And that means you must think thoughts that feel different when you think them.

It’s your thought patterns that have created your emotional set-point. So it’s really this simple: To change your vibrational set-point, you must change your thought patterns.

  • What are your chronic thought patterns?
  • Are those patterns of thought creating the vibrational set-point you want?
  • What thoughts are lowering your vibrational frequency?

“You are so free, you can reset your vibrational point of attraction every single day. That’s how much freedom you have.” —Abraham

The thoughts you are used to thinking feel natural to you, second nature.

It’s like you’ve created a groove with those thoughts.

If those thoughts serve you and create the vibrational set-point you want, then that groove is a fantastic thing.

But if your chronic patterns of thought are creating an emotional set-point you do not want, then that groove is really a rut.

  • Maybe your thoughts patterns about money reflect a scarcity mindset and fear is the rut you’re in.
  • Perhaps your chronic patterns of thought about work create feelings of frustration and irritation. And so those gunky emotions are you emotional set-point.
  • Maybe your go-to thoughts about your body cause feelings of insecurity. And so insecurity is the vibrational groove—aka rut—you’re in.

Imagine your habitual patterns of thought as a real rut in the road. You’ve gotten the “tire”, so to speak, of your thoughts in that rut and it makes it easy to stay in it and difficult to get out of it.

The only way to get out of that rut and create a new vibrational groove is to think new and different thoughts.

Thoughts that feel better when you think them. Thoughts that allow you to create and drive on a new road, a new reality.

“Your emotional set-points can change from not feeling good to feeling good, for your set-points are achieved simply by paying attention to a subject and through your practiced thought. And we want you to understand the extreme value in deliberately achieving your own set-points.” —Ask and It Is Given Cards

You have the ability to tell a new story and begin new patterns of thought that better serve you.

And when you do this, practicing those new, better-feeling thoughts, you will achieve a different vibration, a different vibrational set-point, and change your point of attraction.
